SWAG, MTN LAUNCHES TEXTPOLL FOR TOP AWARDS.

The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) in collaboration with MTN has launched a new communication channel for the 36th SWAG awards night slated for July 2, 2011 at the State Banquet Hall, Accra.
 
The new channel called ‘Textpoll’ with the short code 1340 aims at improving the selection process for sports personalities in the various categories for the awards.
 
At the launch in Accra yesterday, the Head of Corporate Services of MTN, Mrs. Mawuena Trebarh noted that the introduction of the channel was to solicit input from the public regarding selection of winners and to create an air of excitement among lovers of sports in the country.
 
Mrs. Trebarh indicated that, one could text as many times for a favourite personality of  to the code, adding that, fans with the highest text will win an award.
 
The president of SWAG, Mr Anthnoy Ackah assured the gathering this year’s awards would mark an improvement upon the previous edition and urged the media to hype it to make it a success.
 
Explaining the criteria, the president said fans would be required to send SP with the letter A,B or C to the nominees in the Sports Personality of the Year category to the short code on the MTN network while that of the Footballer of the Year award is preceded by FP followed by the alphabets.
 
He announced the nominees for the Sports Personality (SP) of the year as Richard Kingson, Asamoah Gyan and Joseph Agbeko while Andre Dede Ayew, Asamoah Gyan and Richard Kingson vie for the Football Personality (FP) of the year.
 
Mr. Ackah on behalf of SWAG expressed gratitude to MTN and the media for being part of the launch.
