The spokesman for the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Mr. Mohammed Amin Lamptey has urged two public figures to support boxing in the country.
He believes that the duo; Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Nii Nortey Duah and Mr. Alfred Vandepuye, Major of Accra can use their portfolios to revive the sport.
Mr. Lamptey made this known in an interview with Happy Fm yesterday during the morning sports show in Accra.
According to him boxing which use to be attractive in some years back where the likes of Barima Azumah Nelson, D.K Poison, Ike ‘Bazooka’ Quartey and the others did well to placed Ghana on the map, however, today less attention is being paid to the sport.
“Other sporting disciplines like Football, Badminton and the rest are being given some attention as compared to boxing” he noted.
He said there should be more resources to help beef up the sport to encourage all and sundry to love the discipline.
Mr. Lamptey stated that the sport not given the needed attention has contributed to the country’s inability to produce more world champions over the years.
He appealed to the government and other corporate institutions to throw their weight behind the sport to be more popular.
